To represent, to build, to inspire. Latrobe Youth Space is a fun, inclusive, safe space where young people’s voices can be heard. A space for opportunity, where young people can explore their interests while feeling supported and secure, Latrobe Youth Space strives to empower, unite and advocate for the youth of Latrobe City. As a space where everyone can feel safe to be themselves, the Latrobe Youth Space aims to diminish stereotypes and create a place where the youth of Latrobe City can flourish.
Latrobe Youth Space is about connecting young people 12-25 in the Latrobe Valley with role models, friends, fun experiences, and exciting opportunities. We are a youth-led space and believe there is nothing more important than empowering and inspiring young people and helping them to have their voices heard.
Our Youth Governance Committee made up of a group of 14, 14-25 year-olds that make decisions about what Latrobe Youth Space run and how we run it, using the ideas, voices, and feedback of our young participants to guide them. We welcome all ideas and feedback from local young people, and love trying new program ideas in the space. (see below for just some of the exciting programs we have had in the space! The sky’s the limit!)
We want to see a Latrobe Valley where all young people feel connected, empowered, and inspired; a place where young people always feel like there is a place and a future for them here if they choose.
We work with a large range of community organisations to optimise opportunities and connections for our young people. It takes a village to raise a young person, and we welcome all collaboration that helps get the best outcomes for our youth. And last but not least, we couldn’t do what we do without our passionate and supportive staff and volunteers.
Some of the programs we have had in the space and continue online include:
Karaoke, Life Skills, Young Parents Program, Rainbow Club, Public Speaking, Soccer, Footy, Styling with Danni, Fi & Deano’s Cultural adventures,
Movie and Drama Club, Mitch’s Moments, Zumba and many, many more – check out Facebook for all the programs
